12th Iberian Meeting on Asteroseismology

IMAS12

Over the past decade, asteroseismology has been transformed by space-based photometric missions, beginning with CNES & ESA’s CoRoT, followed by NASA’s KeplerK2, and TESS. These datasets have revolutionised our understanding of stellar interiors and evolution. The upcoming ESA mission PLATO promises to change the landscape once again, with a dramatic increase in seismic detections for Sun-like stars. At the same time, advances in ground-based spectroscopy with instruments such as ESO’s ESPRESSO and KPF are pushing detection limits towards cooler stars, opening new windows into the internal structure and evolution of K dwarfs. Looking further ahead, if selected by ESA, the HAYDN mission will extend asteroseismology to dense and metal-poor stellar fields, filling gaps that PLATO cannot address by design.

Against this backdrop of rapid progress, the Iberian Meeting on Asteroseismology provides a unique forum for the Group of Iberian Asteroseismologists (GIA) to strengthen collaborations within the Iberian community and build new ones. These annual meetings allow us to discuss current challenges, coordinate efforts in preparation for upcoming missions, and explore joint funding opportunities. They also serve as a platform for the exchange of expertise, the training of young researchers, and for ensuring that the Iberian community plays a leading role in international asteroseismology initiatives. This year marks the 12th Iberian Meeting on Asteroseismology, continuing a tradition of collaboration and forward-looking discussion.
