Are there other Earths in the Galaxy? What do they look like? Even though we have never been closer to answering these important questions, we still need to i) understand what are the conditions in the Galaxy to form Earth-like planets and ii) improve our ability to accurately characterise these alien worlds.

The main scientific motivation of the proposed interdisciplinary project is to study the Galaxy-star-planet compositional link with the ultimate goal of characterising terrestrial planets orbiting Sun-like (spectral type FGK) stars throughout the Galaxy.

The key astrophysical questions I aim to address are:

  • How and where in the Galaxy do planets preferentially form?
  • What is the origin of the compositional diversity of terrestrial planets?
  • Around which stars should we search for Earth analogs?
